Runaway Droid
Runaway Droid is an independent Retrowave project by a Finnish guitarist ANA, based in Helsinki, Finland. Recreating the sound and feel of the 1980’s Runaway Droid explores Synthwave and its subgenres from Outrun to Dark Synth with guitars along the retro synthesizer sounds.
After over a decade spent in rock and metal bands the project took its form in the summer of 2018 as an experiment to create music from childhood nostalgia and fusing together two decades of guitar playing into learning to play keyboard. After releasing the first single Activation Sequence and the first album Fragments two more albums followed within a year gaining over 200k streams on Spotify in 1,5 years.
The music was never intended to be played live, but fate took a happy turn in the form of Helsinki Synth City collective and Runaway Droid played its first live show at Helsinki Synth City Festival in November 9, 2019 sharing the stage with Nina, Robert Parker, Ace Buchannon, Millennium Falck, Levinsky, Glowline, VVOV & Kizunaut. Two more shows quickly followed in January and February 2020. View all events on Facebook.
